2021 is the first year for the community garden on the historic River Lots 23 & 24. The community responded with enthusiasm and 30+ garden plots are being planted with over 40 gardeners hard at work preparing the soil and planting their gardens.
As in years past, garden plots will produce a harvest for the St Albert Food Bank, giving back to the community is an important part of the work we do at the Heritage Sites.
Another way we are giving back to our community by planting and nurturing our pollinator garden. Last year small gardens were planted to determine what we could grow well that would attract more bees and butterflies to the river lot sites. This year the garden will expand and staff are working to build both educational and community programming to share these gardens, and what we have discovered about pollinators, with visitors to the site.
Don’t forget to follow the International Children’s Festival 40 Days of Play where the Musee Heritage Sites was featured on Day 30, May 27, 2021
