Archives Moment: Recent Grad working at the Musée Héritage Museum

Hi my name is Michael Bodnar. I recently graduated from Grant MacEwan University. I was taking history and classics. When I was in Grant MacEwan I volunteered at the Musée Héritage Museum in St. Albert during the summers.

One of the things I did as a volunteer was working on a huge history scrapbook. I went through newspaper clippings in the scrapbook and entered them in the computer database. Another thing I did as a volunteer was picture scanning. I went through old pictures and scanned them in the scanner.

I am now working at the Musée Héritage Museum as a paid employee.

One of the things I’ve done so far as a paid employee is measure pictures from the Hole’s farm collection in the archives. When measuring pictures of the Hole’s farm collection, I entered picture descriptions and measurements in the computer database.

I also did cataloguing with Alex, the education programmer. Alex would pull an artifact from a bin and I would enter the information she told me in the computer database. Examples of artifacts in the bins were moccasins, bison fur, wooden spoons etc.

So far my experiences have been satisfying and I hope to achieve more in the coming future.
