Volunteer at the Musée profile: Meet Sarah

Hello! My name is Sarah, I’m 16 years old and I’ve been volunteering at the museum since last summer.

I originally decided to start volunteering at the museum because I’m at that time in my life where we have to start to think about what our careers are going to be.  I thought about going into the field of museum studies and I thought it would be a good idea to see what it’s like to work/volunteer in a museum. I discovered that I love museums and their atmosphere by volunteering here at the museum.

I enjoy watching people learn about our history in St. Albert and discovered that museums aren’t actually boring at all! When I volunteer I usually help at the front desk preparing things for school programs and talking to visitors. I also started an archives project where I describe slides and put them into a database.

Everyone who works at the museum is very kind and welcoming and it’s very fun to talk about history with people who love it as much as you do. I do plan on pursuing archeology or anthropology in post-secondary school and volunteering at the museum has definitely helped me make that decision.
