Thank you to all of the people who attended the opening reception of the True Cost of Oil exhibition at the Musée Héritage Museum on February 6, 2016. A very special thank you to Garth Lenz for attending our opening to discuss his career and his photographic work on display in the museum gallery.
Garth’s talk was both informative and thought provoking, talking about his own history as a photographer, and the reasons he started photographing the Boreal Forest of Canada and the Oil Sands in Alberta.
Garth pointed out the juxtaposition of nature and industry in his photos and the vast size of the spaces discussed that we are able to see in his use of aerial photography.
He suggested that we look at the subtle details in the photos to gain perspective. For example the bright small lights in the photo to the right that are actually large house sized trucks!
Garth would like people to look at the photos and discover, or challenge, their own understanding about what is happening in the Boreal forest regions across Canada.
Thank you to the audience at the reception for your questions and comments. The True Cost of Oil exhibition will be available for viewing at the Musée Héritage Museum until April 17, 2016.
