Saturday January 11, 2020 the Musée Héritage Museum hosted an afternoon movie entitled “That Never Happened”. This film tells the story of Canada’s first internment operations that took place between 1914-1920 when 88,000 people in Canada were forced to register as “enemy aliens” and 8500 were imprisoned in internment camps across Canada.
The day outside was cold and windy but the turnout was great as visitors toured the Enemy Aliens: Internment in Canada, 1914-1920 exhibition from the Canadian War Museum and enjoyed Ukrainian food from the Taste of Ukraine restaurant before settling in to watch the movie.
Great discussions ensued and some personal family stories were shared by participants at the event.
The Enemy Aliens exhibition is open until Sunday January 19, 2020. Hours at the museum are Tuesday – Saturday 10am until 5pm and Sunday 1pm – 5pm.
