An Afternoon of Tea and Beading

Participants in the beading circle

On Sunday, November 19th, 2017, the Musée hosted a beading circle with members of the Michel Band First Nation. The Michel Band museum exhibition features the history of this local first nation and their challenges. Beadwork is an important cultural skill for both First Nations and Métis people. Beading circles are casual gatherings where beadwork techniques and oral history are passed on in equal measure.

Syd Courtepatte, a band councillor with Michel First Nation, was on hand to share his love of beading and knowledge with all who dropped by.

One family made a day of it, doing beadwork and taking in the Michel exhibition. Guests were also treated to tea, coffee and cookies. Everyone went home with a great project and a smile on their face!

The Michel Band Exhibit runs until January 7th, 2018.
